This JBL Paragon D44000 is believed to be circa late 60s - early 70s, given the cabinet serial number and components used. It features a 3-piece construction consisting of left and right speaker cabinets and the front curved cover panel. Finished in walnut veneer, the cabinet body is in very good condition, with original legs, adjusters, and internal horn mount hardware. This particular system utilizes the LE15A woofers, 375 compression horn drivers, 075 tweeters, and LX5/N7000 crossover network. All of the electronics are unmodified/original JBL components. The speaker system has been tested and is fully functional. There are a few veneer imperfections/chips on the front and back edges of the cabinet, but they do not detract from its overall appearance, integrity, or performance. Please see attached photos to view condition and wear. We will also provide other specific photos on request as well as answer any further questions.
Designed by Arnold Wolf, based on a concept by Richard Ranger, the JBL Paragon, specifically the C44/D44000 model, is a one-piece stereo loudspeaker system produced by JBL from 1957 and discontinued in 1983. Only around 1,000 units were ever produced making these systems rare and highly sought-after among vintage audio and stereo enthusiasts. Each unit required a team of six people and an estimated 112 to 125 man-hours to complete, with a significant portion of the time dedicated to the woodwork finishing.
